Appropriations and Budget Issues for the Protection and Advocacy Programs and the Client Assistance Program. Specifically advocating for increases in FY 15 appropriations. Also looking to increase overall health care (including substance abuse and mental health treatment funding), education, transportation, and housing appropriations for individuals with disabilities. We also worked on ways to address sequestration and its impact on funding.

Stopping the use of restraint and seclusion in schools and legislation in both the House and Senate to create federal standards on the use of restraint and seclusion. Regulations to implement IDEA and NCLB. Legislation to reauthorize ESEA and IDEA. Definition of Highly Qualified teacher and creation of a Education Protection and advocacy program. We also worked on high stakes testing issues to ensure accessibility and accommodations. Additionally, working to ensure waivers issued by the Department of Education are beneficial to people with disabilities.

Following the implementation of health care reform legislation focused specifically on issues that effect individuals with a disability like non-discrimination, and what is in the covered package, exchanges. One issue we continue to focus on is the making long term services and supports affordable. Also following legislative proposals to fund or defund health care reform and make modifications to the existing law. Finally proposed changes to Medicaid and Medicare and home and community based services.

Worked on national transportation act reauthorization and making sure it helps individuals with disabilities can get effective transportation to be fully included in the community including to work, recreation, social events, and doctor's appointments.

Our work here was focused on helping individuals with disabilities achieve employment through legislation like the Rehab Act which includes the PAIR and CAP programs. Also, working to ensure that employment needs of individuals with a disability are considered in these tough economic times like through federal employment, and other means. Finally working on reauthorization of the PABSS and WIPA programs.

Working to ensure veterans with disabilities have legislation passed to help them make the transition to civilian life. Also exploring funding for the work the P&As and CAPs have been doing with veterans. Also working to ensure access for the P&A and CAP programs to veteran facilities. Finally, looking at the possibility of replicating the P&A Rep. Payee program with a similar program through the VA focused on fiduciaries of veterans benefits. Also working to ensure education benefits for children of veterans.
