16. Specific lobbying issues
Railroad Retirement Board (RRB) - TCU meets periodically with the Railroad Retirement Board (RRB) to discuss the Board's operations, the trust's status, occupational disability benefits, and potential policy changes in the future.
RRB Funding and RUIA - TCU communicated with the Board specifically to discuss their ongoing funding issues and inability to modernize their systems, as well as the Railroad Unemployment Insurance Trust being subject to sequestration. We also discussed these issues with various House and Senate staff, in particular with regards to LHHS funding bills in Congress.
Amtrak Operations - TCU communicated with various House and Senate offices regarding operational and service change issues on Amtrak, and their impact on Amtrak's workforce. These issue areas include: food and beverage service, ticket clerk positions at stations across the country, service changes on long-distance routes, call center worker, and maintenance and servicing of rolling stock.
Appropriations - Amtrak Funding - TCU met with House and Senate staff, as well as Amtrak itself, to discuss the long-distance service on Amtrak. TCU routinely lobbies for increased funding for Amtrak.
Passenger Rail Assault - TCU communicated with Senate staff on legislation regarding assaults on Amtrak on-board service workers.
H.R.3148 - Railroad Yardmaster Protection Act of 2017 - TCU lobbied various House offices on this legislation. TCU represents many yardmasters at various railroads, and this legislation is meant to bring them under Hours-of-Service regulations. This move is necessary as the work has become increasingly safety-sensitive, with yardmasters now being responsible for remotely overseeing the operations of numerous yards.

16. Specific lobbying issues
H.R.785 - National Right-to-Work Act - TCU routinely meets with House and Senate offices to discuss our opposition to national right-to-work legislation.
Workplace Drug Testing - TCU met with Senate staff to discuss our concerns with the "Fighting Opioid Abuse in Transportation Act" (S. 2848). TCU is not opposed to opioid testing but rather we argue that if certain workers are to be included in random drug testing that they should also be deemed safety sensitive and therefore subject to Hours-of-Service regulations.
Union Elections - TCU lobbied in solidarity with our merged affiliate union, the IAMAW, in support of a letter to both Boeing and the IAMAW to sit down and negotiate a new contract in the wake of a representation election by Boeing Flight Technicians.
