S. 192, Community and Public Health Programs Extension Act. Includes 5-year reauthorization of the Special Diabetes Program (SDP), which ADA supports. ADA does not weigh in on other aspects of the legislation.
H.R. 2668, the Special Diabetes Program Reauthorization Act of 2019. Reauthorizes the Special Diabetes Program for type 1 diabetes for fiscal years 2020 - 2024 for $200 million per year. Support legislation.
H.R. 2680, the Special Diabetes Programs for Indians Reauthorization Act of 2019. Reauthorizes the Special Diabetes Program for Indians for fiscal years 2020 - 2024 for $200 million per year. Support legislation.
H.R. 2740, FY 2020 House Departments of Labor, Health and Human Services, and Education and Related Agencies (LHHS) Appropriations. ADA supports funding for the Division of Diabetes Translation and the National Diabetes Prevention Program at the CDC as well as funding for the NIDDK at the NIH. Our efforts are focused on increased funding for both of these agencies.
H.R.3163/S.2520, FY 2020 House Transportation-HUD Appropriations. ADA supports inclusion of language to direct FAA to disclose the number of pilots with insulin-dependent diabetes who have been issued licenses.
S. 1895, the Lower Health Care Costs Act. Includes 5-year reauthorization of the Special Diabetes Program (SDP), a provision that would end surprise medical billing, and provisions lowering prescription drug costs, which ADA supports.
H.R. 2328, the Reauthorizing and Extending Americas Community Health Act/REACH Act. Includes 4-year reauthorization of the Special Diabetes Program. ADA does not weigh in on other aspects of the legislation.
S. 2474, FY 2020 Defense Appropriations. Support inclusion of diabetes as an eligible research category for the Congressionally Directed Medical Research Program.

H.R. 1840/S. 814, the Expanding Access to Diabetes Self-Management Training (DSMT) Act. The Association supports this legislation to reduce barriers and increase the utilization of DSMT, which is a covered benefit under Medicare.
S. 1895, the Lower Health Care Costs Act. Includes 5-year reauthorization of the Special Diabetes Program (SDP), a provision that would end surprise medical billing, and provisions lowering prescription drug costs, which ADA supports.
S.2302, The Americas Transportation Infrastructure Act. Support including provisions for transportation alternative programs, which were included in S.1098 and safe routes to school.
S.2358, The Wise Investment in Children Act of 2019 (WIC Act). Support extending child eligibility to age six or the beginning of kindergarten; extending infant certification periods to two years; and extending postpartum womens eligibility to two years.
S. 2199, The Insulin Price Reduction Act. The ADA supports this legislation which encourages lower insulin prices.
H.R. 2279, the Safe Step Act. The ADA supports this legislation which would require group health plans to provide an exceptions process for any medication step therapy protocol.
Issues worked on not yet reflected in legislation:
Cost of prescription drugs. The Association is concerned about the rising cost of insulin and other diabetes medications. The Association has advocated for Congress to hold hearings with all parties in the insulin supply chain to increase transparency and ultimately make insulin more affordable for patients and has released public policy recommendations to accomplish such.
Improving access to affordable and adequate health care. The ADA supports continued efforts to protect and expand benefits under the Affordable Care Act (ACA), Medicare, Medicaid, and other health plans to ensure access to affordable health coverage for people with diabetes.
Medicare Diabetes Prevention Program. The Association supports efforts to make CDC-recognized virtual diabetes prevention program (DPP) providers eligible for reimbursement in MDPP.
Child Nutrition Reauthorization. The Association supports protecting many programs (Summer Meals, School Breakfast Program, WIC) that are a part of the Healthy and Hunger-Free Kids Act, which was last reauthorized in 2010.
